Overview
A VR training simulation for aviation students to practice Marshalling, Refueling, Water/waste disposal, GPU connection, Pre-arrival checks, Pre-departure checks, and Cargo loading. The project involved close collaboration with subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and educational value.
Challenge and Solution
The Challenge
Designing a VR training experience that effectively teaches complex procedures while being intuitive for users new to VR. The simulation needed to balance realism with accessibility to ensure it was a useful training tool without overwhelming users.
Additionally, performance optimization was crucial to ensure a smooth experience on VR hardware, which has more limited resources compared to traditional gaming platforms.
The Solution
Iterative playtesting and feedback from subject matter experts ensured the training simulation was both accurate and user-friendly. The VR environment was designed to be intuitive, allowing students to focus on learning the procedures without being hindered by the technology.
Multiple optimization techniques were implemented to ensure smooth performance on VR hardware (Quest), including but not limited to level of detail (LOD) systems, baked lighting, and efficient asset management.
